The incident was reported from Kayukkhali Para in the district's Teknaf Municipality early on Saturday (Jun 1), said BGB.
The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Abdul Gafur and 23-year-old Mohammad Sadek.
"Being tipped-off that some drug peddlers gathered there to smuggle narcotics from Myanmar, a team of BGB conducted a drive in the area. As soon as BGB reached the area, the drug peddlers opened fire when the BGB retaliated," said Lt Col Foysal Hassan Khan, captain of Teknaf-2 BGB battalion.

"Gafur and Sadek were caught in the cross-firing and rushed to the Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where the doctor declared them dead on arrival,” said Khan.

"Two BGB members were injured in the shootout," he said.

"100,000 yaba tablets and sharp weapons were seized from the scene," added the BGB officer.
