Murder accused killed in Chattogram ‘shootout’

A man, who was accused of shooting a woman dead, has been killed in Chattogram in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported around 3am on Sunday (May 12) on the bank of Karnaphuli River under Bakalia police station area in the port city, said police.
The deceased has been identified as Shah Alam.
Bakalia police OC Nezam Uddin said that four policemen including him were injured in the incident.
"We conducted a drive to arrest Shah Alam. Sensing our presence, Shah Alam and his associates opened fire on us. In retaliation, police fired back, which left Shah Alam injured while the others managed to flee the scene,” said Uddin.
“He was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the doctor declared him dead,” he said.
Late on Saturday (May 11), Shah Alam entered the house of 35-year-old Bubli Akhter at Barjaghona Madina Masjid area under Bakalia police station and shot her.
Later, Bubli was taken to CMCH, where the doctors declared her dead.
