Two alleged Rohingya drug peddlers have been killed in Cox's Bazar in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported from Leda Rohingya Camp in the district’s Teknaf Upazila early on Monday (May 6), said police.
The deceased have been identified as 34-year-old Md Alam and 20-year-old Md Rafiq.
"Police conducted a drive in the area responding to a tip-off. Sensing the presence of law enforcing men, a group of the drug peddlers opened fire on police, in self-defence police had to fire back triggering the shootout,” said Teknaf police OC Prodeep Kumar Das.
"After the shootout, police recovered the bodies and sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy,” said Das.
“Two firearms, seven rounds of ammunition, 2,200 yaba tablets and Tk 656,210 were seized from the scene," added the OC.
