A rape allegation has been raised against the investigative officer (IO) of a dowry case on Friday.
Sub-inspector Chan Mia raped the complainant of the case on Friday noon at College Para area under Roumari Upazila in Kurigram, alleged locals.


They said locals rushed to a house at College Para area on Friday noon hearing shout of the victim after she was raped inside the house. Sub-inspector Chan Mia who called the victim to the house in name of investigation of the case was caught red-handed by the locals.
Later, additional police reached the spot on information when locals started beating the IO. They recovered Chan Mia from the locals promising that he would be married off to the victim and took him back to thana.
Declining to comment on the rape allegation, Roumari thana OC Zahangir Alam admitted the issue of recovering SI Chan Mia.
Asked about Chan Mia’s assurance given to the victim about marrying her, the OC said, “Chan Mia told me that he had already married the woman. After going home to bring marriage papers to show me, he did not return to the thana.”
While contacted, the victim told the Bangla Tribune: “I filed a dowry case against my husband with Roumari thana. Several times IO Chan Mia lured me to marry him calling me to various places in the name of discussing the case. On Friday also, he called me to a College Para house on the same excuse and raped me there. I want justice for this.”
Meanwhile, locals alleged that OC Zahangir trickily took away Chan Mia from the scene. Although he promised before the local people that the IO would be married off to the victim, he completed his duty handing over the woman to her parents.
SI Chan Mia’s mobile phone was found switched off during several attempts.
