The incident was reported around 4.15am on Monday (Apr 29) from North Amirabad area in the district’s Lohagara Upazila, said RAB.
The deceased has been identified as Saiful Islam, owner of a coaching centre at North Amirabad area, and an accused in a case filed over raping a Class-IX student on Apr 12. He had been on the run since the case was filed against him.
“A shootout took place between RAB and Saiful along with his associates in the area,” RAB 7 Assistant Director (Media) Mashkur Rahman told Bangla Tribune.
“Later, Saiful’s bullet-ridden body was found at the scene while his associates fled,” he added.
“Two firearms and 24 rounds of ammunition were seized from the scene,” Rahman said.
On Apr 12, Saiful reportedly tied up the girl and raped her in the absence of his family members.
A case was then filed against him on Apr 15.
