Chandpur road crash kills five

Head-on collision between a bus and a cng-run auto rickshaw has left at least five dead in Chandpur.

The incident was reported around 9:30 at the district’s Shahrasti area.

All of the victims were passengers of the auto rickshaw, said police.

The deceased have been identified Abul Kalam, 65, Ranjit Chandra Mazumder, 75, Jannatul Ferdous Moni, 27 and Roman, 8.

According to police and locals, the bus was going to Tongi while the auto rickshaw was en route to Chanpur. The collision, which took place at the Kakurtala bazaar area on the Chandpur-Cumilla highways, killed four on the spot. Another person died while undergoing treatment at the Shahrasti Upazila Health Complex.

The driver and helper of the bus managed to flee leaving the vehicle behind, said locals.

Shahrasti police OC Shah Alam said, the bodies have been sent to Chandpur morgue for autopsy.
