More polling centres proposed for BCC election

Barishal City CorporationThe district Election Commission has proposed to increase the number of polling centre to 127 in the upcoming Barishal City Corporation [BCC] election.
District Election Officer Helal Uddin Khan has made the proposal Tuesday when he disclosed the draft voter list, vote centre and other polls related information at Nathullabad regional election office.
Officers-in-charge of the four police stations in the town were also present at the meeting where Helal sought everybody’s cooperation to hold a free, fair and peaceful election.
In the 2013 BCC polls, a total of 2,11,227 voters had the opportunity to cast their votes at 100 centres but this time voters increased by 30,732.
Helal said anybody can send his or her written reservations, demands or recommendations about the proposed polling centre to the district election office by June 10 and there would be a public hearing the next day.
The final proposal will be sent to the Election Commission on June 20, he said adding, “A gazette will be published 25 days before the polls date, which is July 30.”
