A portion of the ceiling of a classroom at Poratal Government Primary School, in Abhaynagar upazila, under Jashore district, has collapsed.
The roof caved-in around 12:30pm on Wednesday (Apr 10). However, no casualties have been reported.
"The ceiling collapsed while we were holding classes of Class 4. A part of the rooftop beam crashed beside the window with a loud bang,” school Principal Akhtaruzzaman Babul told Bangla Tribune.
"Although the students were scared, nobody was harmed," he said.
The principal claimed they had previously informed the local primary education officials of the risky state of the building.
Abhaynagar upazila primary education officer Abdul Jabbar Sarder said: "Currently, 44 buildings in Abhaynagar are under construction. We will have a meeting with all school principles tomorrow [April 11], where we will identify the high-to-medium risky school buildings."
In Barguna, a portion of a primary school's ceiling collapsed in the district's Amtali upazila, killing a 10-year-old girl and injuring five others, on Apr 6.
Three days later, the ceiling of another school in Sadar upazila of the same district collapsed; this time, no one died, but students narrowly escaped injuries.
