RANGPUR--BIKKOVE-PHOTO-2-Police in Rangpur has detained a Hindu man for reportedly making offensive remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) following protests by locals at Tajhat.

Prabhat Chandra, a teacher of Agriculture Training Institute, was taken into custody on Tuesday (Apr 2), Tajhat police OC Rokonuzzaman said before adding a case will be filed against him.

According to police and the institute’s Principal Mohammad Ali, Chandra made the offensive comments while teaching a class on Monday, drawing immediate protests from the students.

“Apparently Prabhat Chandra insisted that he was right even after the students protested and demanded he withdraws the comment,” said Principal Ali.RANGPUR-BIKKOVE-PHOTO-1

Soon after the news spread, locals and students started demonstrating in front of the institute demanding the teacher to be brought to justice.

The protesters resumed on Tuesday blocking the key intersection of sub-urban, causing hour-long gridlocks on highways to Rangpur, Kurigram, and Lalmonirhat.

Police later intervened and brought the situation under control.

Principal Ali added that the higher-ups were also notified about the incident, and confirmed that a case was being filed against Prabhat following his detention by police.
