Three, including a UP chairman, have been sued for assaulting a female UP member in Sirajganj.

The incident took place on Mar 27 when Umarpur UP Chairman Abdul Matin, and UP Members Arfan Ali and Helal Uddin Lalon, attacked UP Member Aleya Khatun after she lodged a complaint to the local UNO about VGD card distribution irregularities.

The attackers ripped off her earlobe, causing her to become hospitalized due to severe loss of blood.

Aleya’s son, Milon Pasha, filed a complaint with Sirajganj court, which took the matter into cognizance and ordered the Chauhali police to treat it as a case immediately.

Until the court’s order, the local police and the UNO were reported to have been quiet about the incident, which caused a stir among locals and the media.

Earlier, both the UNO and the Chauhali police OC refused to discuss the matter, saying there was no complaint filed.
