Two Rohingya men from Myanmar have been killed in Cox’s Bazar in what the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) described as shootout.

The incident was reported from Kharangkhali area in the district’s Teknaf Upazila around 4:30am on Wednesday (Mar 27), said BGB.

The deceased have been identified as 19-year-old Mohammad Faruq Mia and 18-year-old Mohammad Elias.

“A patrol team encountered two people attempting to trespass into Bangladesh territory from Myanmar through the Kharangkhali-Naf River border point,” Teknaf BGB 2nd Battalion acting commander Shariful Islam Jomadder told Bangla Tribune.

“The trespassers fired upon the BGB team, as they tried to stop them, triggering a shootout. Two Rohingya men of Myanmar were killed at the scene,” said Jomadder before adding, “The bodies have been sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.”

BGB said that they have seized 190,000 yaba tablets from the area.
