Three people have died in Jamalpur after an electrical cable broke during repair works of the transmission line.
Four others have been hospitalised in the incident reported from the district’s Islampur Upazila, said the local administration chief (UNO) Md Mizanur Rahman.
According to witnesses, an electrical pole fell off on the transmission cable causing it to break, when three of the workers died in the spot.
They have been identified as Abu Taher, Hasan and Obaidur, who were employed by the contractor.
The bodies have been sent to the Jamalpur General Hospital for autopsies, said Islampur police OC Shahinuzzaman Khan.
The four other workers, who have been taken to the hospital in Jamalpur town, are Helal Uddin, Jewel, Mithun and Shafiqul.
The local electricity office blamed the contractor, one Md Bayazid, for the mishap.
“The procedure is to inform us beforehand, but that was not the case for this contractor. We would have switched off the transmission,” Deputy General Manager Vajan Kumar Barman of the Islampur zonal office for the Rural Electrification Board said.
Bangla Tribune could not reach contractor Bayazid could not be reached for a comment.
