A landslide in the hill district of Bandarban on Monday has left at least one dead.
Four others are still reported missing in the incident at the Ghumdhum hill in Naikkhangchhari Uapzila.
Conflicting figures have been reported over the casualties.
“We are aware of the landslide, but yet to confirm how many people died,” Naikkhangchhari administration chief (UNO) SM Sarwar Kamal.
Police said they have been reported of three deaths.
“Unverified reports suggest three bodies have been recovered, but we are yet to establish contact with the local police due to network troubles,” said Superintendent of Police Zakir Hossain Majumder.
Locals said the landslide took place when a group of workers were cutting the hill for construction of a drain.
The labourers are Mohammad Abu, Sona Mian, Md Jasim, Nurul Hakim and Nur Mohammad. All of them are aged 25 to 30 years.
Locals said the labourers fell under the landslide while they were were cutting the hill for construction of a drain. The landslide buried all the five workers under heaps of soil. Body of one worker has been recovered. Rescue efforts are going on to recover others.
