2 lakh Rohingyas got Cholera vaccine

Rohingyas are vaccinatedCholera vaccine has been supplied to 2, 17,350 Rohingyas living in the refugee camps in Ukhia and Teknaf. The International Centre for Diarrhoeal Diseases Research (ICDDRB) assisted the government in this immunization campaign.

ICDDRB coordinator Bodrul Ahsan Prodhan said, ‘The government has decided to provide the vaccine against cholera among 9 lakh people of Rohingya. State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malik inaugurated the program on October 10. The ICDDRB is providing comprehensive assistance to the Health Ministry in this work through supplying doses of the vaccines. On Tuesday and Wednesday, 2, 17,350 cholera vaccines were provided.

ICDDRB consultant Tajul Islam said, ‘"Last year, 762 Rohingyas in Myanmar's Rakhine state were attacked by cholera and 11 Rohingyas died of cholera. For this reason, vaccination among Rohingyas is necessary.’

The government decided to vaccinate 6.5 lakh Rohingyas in the first phase that has started from October 10 and will end 15 October. In the second phase, 2.5 lakh will be vaccinated between October 31 and November 5.
