‘Bandit’ killed in Sundarbans ‘gunfight’

A suspected bandit was killed in a 'gunfight' between the Coast Guard and a forest bandit gang known as Asabur bahini in Sundarbans’ Sonaimukhi area.

The incident took place at in the early hours on Monday (Feb 17), said coast guard officials.

“On a tip-off that the bandits of the Asabur gang were preparing for a robbery, members of the coast guard raided the Sonaimukhi Khal area. Sensing their presence the bandits opened fire forcing the coast guard members to retaliate in self defence,” said Coast Guard West Zone Operations Officer Lt Abdullah Al Mahmud.

“At the end of the gunfight when the bandits retreated, bullet hit body of one bandit was found,” he added.

The Coast Guard team also recovered four firearms and a bullet from the scene.
