Man killed in Jashore ‘shootout’

An unidentified man has been killed in Jashore in what the police described as shootout.

The incident was reported from Rahamatpur Kanagate area in the district’s Sadar Upazila around 3.30am on Wednesday (Feb 13), said police.

“Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at the area where a group of robbers were exchanging bullets among them. Sensing the presence of law enforcing men, the miscreants flee from the spot,” said Jashore police OC Apurba Hassan.

“Later, police recovered a bullet ridden body from the scene and sent it to Jashore General Hospital for autopsy,” added Hassan.

“A shooter gun, one bullet, two locally-made choppers, a saw and rope were seized from the scene,” said the OC before adding, “A case will be filed over the incident.”

Police claimed that the deceased is a robber and he died during the shootout.
