Combined efforts of teachers and students have changed Rajshahi College

Rajshahi CollegeThe students of Rajshahi College had inferior feeling as they didn’t get facilities of a full-fledged university.  Many of them had sad feelings for not getting admission in a university where they can get a large campus & quality education. But the efforts of the administration of Rajshahi College in the last few years have changed their conceptions of their own college. And now Rajshahi College is the top ranked college under National University.

In this small campus, 28 non-political organizations have been formed for the students which work to prepare the students for their careers.

On Tuesday afternoon, while visiting the college campus the reporter found the students of different organizations busy with their activities. Habiba Khatun, a 2nd year student of the Economics Department who was learning ‘pasting process’ of the newspaper at that time, said the reporter, ‘I am proud to be a student of this college as for the second time we have been able to hold the top position in the whole country. The devotion of the teachers helped us to make the good results.’

She further said, ‘Now our teachers appear in the class on time. Every morning our principal visits the whole campus and check whether everything is running in the proper way or not. Earlier we had an inferior feeling about our college. But now, this beautiful and education friendly environment of the college campus has changed our attitude towards our own college.’

Rashedul Hasan, a third-year student in Marketing Department of this college said, ‘We are taught in a modern Education system. Our teachers take the presence and attention of the students in the classrooms very seriously.’

Regarding the continuous success of Rajshahi College, the college principal Professor Md. Habibur Rahman told the Bangla Tribune, 'Earlier there was a kind of regret among the students as they could not get admitted to the public universities. They thought that their future had ruined after getting admitted to this campus. We have succeeded to change this mindset through our efforts. We topped in the both rankings of National University and Education Ministry.’ 

He further said, ‘30 students from the higher secondary section of our college have got a chance to get admitted to the University of Dhaka. We helped two of them who faced the financial obstacle to getting admitted. Because of our efforts for the students, they feel intimacy with the campus even when they finished their education here.’ 

The students are also trained to build up their career in IT sector. Regarding this, the Principal said, ‘Everyday from 4 pm to 6 pm 110 students are given training in the ICT center in different batches.’

Earlier, on the college campus, there were always hassles of political disputes. But now, the college administration has managed to free the campus from political influences with the help of local influential.


Principal Habibur Rahman said, ‘Rajshahi College is carrying the legacy of its glory overcoming its limitations. With its meritorious teachers and students now it has become one of the best educational institutions.’




About the steps to solve the crisis of the college, Principal Habibur Rahman said, ‘A 10-stored academic building will be built newly on the college campus. Then we will not face any crisis of classrooms. Besides, the process of increasing the transports for the students is underway. We are trying to transform this college gradually into a public university.’ 

Rajshahi College was founded in 1873. Currently, around 26 thousand students and 248 teachers are engaged in 24 departments of the college.
