Shutdowns called in hill tract districts

Five people, including United People’s Democratic Front (Ganatantrik) leader Tapan Jyoti Chakma, were killed on Friday while they were heading to the funeral of Shaktiman Chakma, the Jana Sanghati Samiti (MN Larma-faction) leader who was shot dead the previous day.Shutdowns for Monday and Tuesday have been called in the three hill tract districts by Bangalee residents.
The Bangalee Chhatra Parishad (BCP), a forum of Bangalee students and the Parbattya Nagorik Parishad, a civic body comprising of Bangalees living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts have called the general strike to press their three-point demand.
The organisations will also hold a black-flag match on Sunday in Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban, BCP Rangamati unit President Jahangir Alam told Bangla Tribune.
The three demands are release of three Bangalees abducted from Matiranga, justice for Sajib Hawlader, the driver of the car which was attacked on Friday and stopping terror activities by all armed groups, including JSS and UPDF.
