Rangpur PP murder key suspect dies in jail

Quamrul IslamThe prime suspect in the murder of Rangpur public prosecutor Rathish Chandra Bhowmik has died in prison.
Police said Quamrul Islam died on Saturday morning at the Rangpur Central Jail.
He was rushed to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where the doctors said he was brought in dead, Rangpur Kotwali police OC Mokhtarul Islam told Bangle Tribune.
“The body has been kept at the hospital,” Islam said.
Hospital authorities said the body will be handed over to the relatives after autopsy.
Special Public Prosecutor Rathish Chandra Bhowmik was reported missing on Mar 29 this year by his wife Deepa Bhowmik. Rathish’ younger brother Sushanta Bhowmik filed a general diary (GD) with the police the next day.
Later, police arrested Quamrul, with whom Deepa had an affair.
On Apr 4, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Deepa, who confessed that she and Quamrul both murdered Rathish and buried him at construction site.
The two are being tried by the court of Rangpur district and sessions judge, which has already heard testimonies of seven witnesses, said Prosecutor Adbul Malek.
