Two alleged drug peddlers have been killed in separate shootouts in Kushtia.
The incidents were reported from the district’s sadar upazila and Daulatpur upazila on early Wednesday, said police.
A victim is identified as Madan in Daulatpur incident.
“Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at Kaburhat Madrasha Para in Sadar upazila around 2 am. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the drug peddlers opened fire to police. In self-defence police have to fire back which triggered a shootout. Later, police recovered a bullet-hit man from the scene and sent him to Kushtia General Hospital where the doctor declared him dead,” said Kushtia police OC Nasir Uddin.
“One pistol, three rounds of ammunition and 800 pieces of Yaba tablets were seized from the scene, he added.
“In another incident, being tipped-off, police conducted a drive at Muslimnagar Field in Daulatpur upazila around 3am. Sensing presence of the law men, the drug peddlers opened fire, forcing them to fire back in self-defence. Later, Madan’s bullet-ridden body was found in the scene and he was sent to Daulatpur hospital where the doctor pronounced him dead,” OC Nasir Uddin said.
“Three police men were injured during the shootout”.
One pistol, three rounds of ammunition, nine pieces of yaba tablets and 30 bottles of phensedyl were seized from the scene.
Madan was a listed drug peddler, police claimed.
