The local administration is struggling to gather Rohingya refugees who have come to Bangladesh. Every day law enforcement forces are working to gather the Rohingyas in the government authorized places. Yet Rohingyas are trying to move to different places in the country.
The administration is not allowing the distribution of relief except Balukhali and Kutupalong to stop the spreading of the Rohingya people. At the same time, activists of different local and foreign aid organizations are also helping to gather the Rohingya refugees.
Rohingyas who entered into Bangladesh to save the life from the ongoing violence in the Rakhine state of Myanmar, are spreading now in the rural areas of Cox’s Bazar and Rangamati district. Already they have built seven new slums in Ukiah, Teknaf, and Naikhongchhari area. Even Rohingyas are staying on the both sides of the main roads of Ukiah and Teknaf.
On Friday night, in a joint press briefing by the International Migration Organization (IOM) and the UNHCR, IOM spokeswoman Chris Lom said that shelter is arranged with the help of IOM in the 2,000 acres of land given by the government. Already of 72 thousand members of 16,000 families are being provided types of equipment to built shade.
Additional Superintendent of Cox’s Bazar police Afrujul Haque Tutul said: “We are struggling a lot to gather the scattered Rohingya people. RAB, police and BGB members are struggling round the clock to gather them to the authorized place. Nine check posts, 12 patrol teams of law enforcement officials and intelligence agencies are working to prevent the spreading of the Rohingya people and to keep the discipline.’
Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md Ali Hossain said: “Relief among the oppressed Rohingya people is going on. 800 metric tons of food and relief worth Tk32 lakh have been distributed among the Rohingya people till Friday night. Besides, the biometric registration process is also going on.’
Since August 25, around 4 lakh Rohingyas took shelter in Bangladesh after the Myanmar army started the massacre. Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council has complained against the 'excessive force' in the military operations in Rakhine state. The Myanmar government has been urged to stop the ongoing violence there and ensure free access to relief workers.
