A suspected drug dealer was killed during a shootout with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Muradpur rail-crossing area under Panchlaish police station in the city on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Asim Roy.

"Tipped-off, elite force members set up a check post at Muradpur area and began searching the vehicles. At that time, a blue-coloured vehicle coming from Oxygen intersection was signalled to pull over. But the drug dealers opened fire on the RAB members, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a shootout. At one stage, some drug dealers on board managed to get away. Later, a body was recovered from the spot," said Lt Col Miftah Uddin Ahmed, Commanding Officer of RAB-7.

The body of the suspected drug dealer was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy.
