However, the hotel will start offering its commercial services from November this year, upon completion of its staff and officials’ training.
Tourism Minister Md Shahjahan Kamal told media on Wednesday at the Secretariat.
The renovated hotel, owned by the Bangladesh government, will be operated by the InterContinental authorities who will get 10 percent of the 50 percent profits, Kamal added.
The hotel now has 231 rooms after renovation with enlarged area. Locations of the Swimming pool and Dining Hall have been changed. It took Tk 6.2 billion for the entire makeover of Hotel InterContinental.
Hotel InterContinental was the first five-star hotel on Bangladeshi soil when it started its operation in 1966. The iconic hotel, designed by William B Tabler, operated until 1983 before Sheraton took over. It was being operated as Ruposhi Bangla under the finance of civil aviation and tourism ministry at the end of Sheraton’s contract.
