Motorcyclists in Rajshahi without helmets and carrying more than one pillion will be denied fuel at filling stations, said police.

The Rajshahi Metropolitan Police made the announcement on Thursday, a few days after it was introduced in Rangpur and then in Dhaka.

“The initiative has been taken to reduce accidents and create awareness,” said Assistant Police Commissioner Iftekhar Alam

Banners have been put up at almost all of the 24 filling stations in the city, he added that legal steps will be taken against non-complying refuelling stations.

The Rajshahi Filling Station Owner’s Association said they have asked all its members to comply with police’s instruction.
