“This is the last election of my life and I want to serve the people of Rangpur for the last time before I die,” he told devotees gathered at Collectorate Eid Gah grounds in the divisional city.
The former military dictator, who now serves as the special envoy to the PM, said he was ever grateful to the people of Rangpur for electing him in five seats and twice.
“I seek one last chance to serve the people of the country.”
Ershad has already announced that he will contest from the Rangpur-3 parliamentary seat.
The former dictator exchanged greetings with the party leaders and activists at his city residence after Eid prayer.
Later, Ershad distributed the meat among poor people as he sacrificed nine animals this year including that of four for his party, Rangpur district JP Joint Secretary Abdur Razzak told Bangla Tribune.
Incumbent Rangpur-2 constituency lawmaker Duke Chowdhury exchanged greetings with the locals after offering Eid prayer on the Bishnupur Eidgah in Badarganj Upazila.
State minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Moshiur Rahman Ranga, who is also the current MP of the Rangpur-1 constituency, offered Eid prayer in Gangachara Upazila.
