PHOTO/Google MapsJoint forces of the police, army and border guards have started conducting raids across Khagrachhari on Sunday a day after six people were gunned down and another killed in ensuing violence.
“The raids will continue over the week and may be extended, if necessary,” Superintendent of Police Ali Ahmed Khan said.
On Saturday, six people were killed in a shootout that erupted just before a scheduled event of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF).
Three others are being treated with gunshot injuries sustained during the shooting between two groups at the district town’s Shwanirbhor Bazar.
Later in the day, another person was killed in a second attack when the UPDF tried to take out a procession.
The UPDF claims its rival Chattogram Hill Tracts Jana Sanghati Samity (JSS) was behind the attack, while the JSS blamed UPDF’s internal feud.
Police handed over the bodies to the families with their funerals scheduled for Sunday (Aug 19).
“No case have been filed yet over the killings,” Khagrachari police OC Md Shahadat Hossain told Bangla Tribune.
