Six people have been killed and three others were injured when shootings erupted in Khagrachhari.
The incident was reported Saturday morning at the district town.
Witnesses said activists of UPDF were attacked at the town's Shanirgar area where they had gathered for a party event.
Six bodies have been taken to the Khagrachhari state-run hospital from the scene.
Three of those killed have been identified as the district unit president of Pahari Chhatra Parishad, backed by United Peoples' Democratic Front (UPDF) Tapan Chakma, General Secretary Elton Chakma and one Jitayan Chalma, who witnesses said was a pedestrian.Three people- Sohel Chakma, Samar Bikash Chakma and Shakhiun Chakkma have been hospitalised with gunshot injuries.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Ali Ahmad Khan said quoting witnesses that UPDF blames the JSS and UPDF (Democratic) faction for the attack.
JSS and UPDF (Democratic) have not made any comment immediately.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to avoid further violence.
