Gas companies' unpaid bills near Tk 90b

The dues of the gas companies stand at Tk 88.32 billion. Recently, nine companies made reports on the outstanding amount.
The companies say that they have given letters to the clients and institutes to get the money and while some have paid, the amount of dues is still high.
The energy division has given a directive for taking firm step in recovering the dues.
Instruction was given to find out ways to recover the money after talking to the big corporations.
The highest amount of dues is faced by Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd. This corporation gets Tk 46.03 billion from clients.
Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited gets Tk 73.94 billion from their clients followed by Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) which gets Tk 68.93 billion.
An official of Titas, says: “We have connected a pre-paid metres to prevent dues for residential homes but the process is sluggish. Once all clients are given pre-paid metres the crisis will be resolved.”
Energy division sources say that in the past unpaid bills created little problem but since LNG has to be imported no, the bills need to be paid on time.
