A Grameenphone Centre in Dhaka WIKIMEDIA COMMONSGrameenphone (GP) says it will face great if the no-objection certificate (NOC) clearance and new number allotment approval is not settled within two to six weeks.
The mobile phone operator's newly-appointed CEO Yasir Azman made the statement at a media call on Monday (Feb 3), according to media reports.
The telco will not be able to provide any more new SIM cards after two weeks, he said before adding the network experience might also witness a major setback within four to six weeks.
In July last year, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) decided to restrict permission for various services, imports, and infrastructure development by GP and Robi for non-payment of their dues.
The mobile operators have to obtain NOCs before launching any package for users, importing radio equipment, and building new towers from the regulator.
After auditing the two companies, the BTRC in 2016 claimed nearly Tk125.8 billion from market leader GP and Tk 8.67 billion from Robi in taxes, and late fees that accumulated over the years.
