Robi clears first installment of audit claim

A general view of Robi Axiata Limited head office in Dhaka GOOGLE STREET VIEWMobile operator Robi Axiata Limited has paid Tk 276 million to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) as per the High Court (HC) directive to clear the audit dues.
"As Robi has paid the first installment, we will lift the NOC suspension on the mobile operator. If they fail to pay the second installment within the timeline, the suspension will be restored," BTRC spokesperson Zakir Hossain Khan told the media on Tuesday (Jan 14).
On Jan 5, the HC ordered Robi to settle Tk 1.38 billion of BTRC audit claim in five installments.
On Jul 31, 2019, the telecom regulator issued a letter to Robi demanding payment of Tk 8.67 billion.
On Aug 25 the same year, Robi filed a case against the payment demand with a lower court and sought temporary injunction on the BTRC's letter which was turned down.
Robi then filed an appeal with the HC on Oct 22 seeking a temporary injunction on the BTRC's letter seeking payment.
Robi owes Tk 8.67 billion to the government, including Tk 1.97 billion to the National Board of Revenue, according to the BTRC audit.
