Trade deficit crosses $5.62 billion

PHOTO/bicda.netDeclining exports have had an impact on trade deficit. In the first four months of July-October, of fiscal year 2019-20, the deficit stood at $5.62 billion which has exceeded Tk 470 billion.
Central bank report says that in the first four months, export earning was $12.517 billion and import expenditure was $18.14 billion. In that account, trade deficit at the end of October stood at $5.62 billion.
Compared to last year, deficit has increased this year by Tk 297 million.
In the first four months the remittance from expatriates was $ 6.16 billion which was $5.11 billion at the same time last year. In that account, remittances have seen a 20.58 percent growth. As per central bank report, FDI in the discussed period has been $1.65 billion, of which, net foreign investment was $881 million. This is 5.36 percent higher than last year.
In the same period, investment in the share market has been $32 million which was $27 million last year.
