The National Board of Revenue (NBR) would crack down on errant taxpayer identification number (TIN) holders who did not file income tax returns, says its Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan.
"Out of the 4.6 million TIN holders, 2.2 million filed returns this year. The NBR will call errant TIN holders over the phone and make them submit returns," he said on Sunday (Dec 8) at a media call over the National VAT Day and VAT Week 2019 on Sunday (Dec 8).
"The total amount of revenue collection in the 2018-19 fiscal year stands at Tk 2.203 trillion. VAT accounts for 39 percent of it, which amounts to Tk 786.94 billion," he said.
The NBR targets to raise Tk 3.256 trillion in revenue during the ongoing 2019-20 fiscal, said Bhuiyan.
