Public hearing over electricity price starts

The public hearing over the electricity service accrual organised by Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) was held at capital’s Trading Corporation of Bangladesh auditorium on Thursday (Nov 28)
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has conducted a public hearing over the electricity price hike proposed by the Power Development Board (PWD).

The hearing over the PWD’s proposal of increase in price was held at capital’s Trading Corporation of Bangladesh auditorium on Thursday (Nov 28).
The BERC’s Technical Evaluation Committee has deduced an increase of 19.5% in electricity price rate instead of the PWD’s proposal of 23.27% increase in that.
The proposal of PWD has been presented by its General Manager (GM) Kausar Amir Ali and opposed by BERC’s Deputy Commissioner (Tariff) Md Kamruzzaman.
Delegates of trade organizations, Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB), several left-wing parties and BNP are also participating in the hearing.
The hearing over electricity wholesale price rate has ended at 1pm while the public hearing has been resumed at 2pm over price rate of electricity conduction proposed by Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB).

The hearings for increased electricity prices at the subscriber level, which is proposed by several power distribution companies, is scheduled between Sunday (Dec 1) and Tuesday (Dec 3).
On Dec 1, the hearings over the new retail prices proposed by Power Distribution Board and Northern Electricity Supply Company Ltd (NESCO) will be held.
On Dec 2, these will continue over the proposals of Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) and Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO).
On Dec 3, the last hearings over the same issue will be held, against Rural Electrification Board (REB) and West Zone Power Distribution Company Ltd (WZPDCO).
