On Saturday, the Power Division unveiled the ‘Net Metering Guideline 2018’ enabling to procure solar energy from rooftop panels of consumers.
Consumers using rooftop solar panels will be able to trade additional or unconsumed energy through an exchange arrangement by a special meter.

Adviser Tawfiq instructed the authorities to introduce the system within two months.
Describing it as a huge opportunity for the consumers to use their own electricity from solar power and sell unconsumed power to the utilities, he said industrial consumers will get the most benefit from selling off unconsumed power during holidays.
State Minister Hamid said the initiative will boost the green energy production in the country.
The government plans to generate 3,168 MW power from renewable energy sources by 2021 in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
