REUTERS/file photoThe Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) will start its public hearing over fresh power prices hike from Nov 28, says a member of the regulatory body.
The date was fixed after the commission accepted the proposals on the revised power prices from the distributing companies, including the Power Development Board (PDB), BERC member Mizanur Rhamn told Bangla Tribune on Monday (Oct 28).
The government last increased power price by 5.3 percent at the consumer level in November 2017, which came to effect on Dec 1 that year while the bulk power price was last raised by 18.12 percent in 2015.
Sources at BERC said the hearing on the proposed bulk power price by the PDB will be held from 10am to 1pm on Nov 28.
The hearing on the power transmission tariff proposed by the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd. (PGCB) will continue from 2pm to 5am on the same day.
On Dec 1, the regulatory body will open public hearing on power tariff hike proposed by the distribution companies at the user level, which will continue till Dec 3.
The regulatory body has asked the people concerned to come up with their opinion or written statement on the public hearing by Nov 19.
"After the hearings, the commission will announce its next decision on the power tariff," BERC member Rahman said.
