Amid the crackdown on gambling, illegal casino operation, and narcotics, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has frozen all bank accounts of Bhola-3 lawmaker Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon, his wife Farzana Chowdhury, and Dhaka South City Jubo League President Ismail Chowdhury Samrat.
The consequence came after the NBR's Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) wrote to the central bank's Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) on Tuesday (Sept 24).
Following the CIC's move, the BFIU sent letters to all bank chiefs asking them to comply with the tax regular's instruction.
Banks have been instructed to suspend all bank accounts of MP Shaon, his wife Farzana, and Samrat, a top BFIU official told Bangla Tribune on Tuesday.
Besides, bank accounts of the people whose names appear in the media are being scrutinised, said the official, who wishes not to be named.
