The government has awarded as many as 66 companies with the National Export Trophy for their extraordinary contribution to exports for fiscal 2016-17.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the awards at a programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka (Sept 1).
Of the 66 companies, 29 were awarded gold medal, 21 silver and 16 bronze in 28 categories for their outstanding performance in the export sector.
Zaber and Zobaer Fabrics was awarded a gold medal as the highest exporter company in FY 2016-17.
Addressing the function, the PM said “Creating new markets and diversifying goods are very important for increasing export.
“We’re working to create new markets, and the business community will have to work for raising export trade,” she added.
The Commerce Ministry and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) jointly organised the function with Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi in the chair.
EPB Vice-Chairman Fatima Yasmin delivered the welcome address.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Commerce Ministry Tofail Ahmed, FBCCI President Sheikh Fazley Fahim, and Commerce Ministry’s Senior Secretary Mafizul Islam also spoke.
At the function, a documentary on ‘Export of Bangladesh’ was screened.
Ministers, PM’s advisers, parliament members, dignitaries, business leaders, high civil and military officials were present at the function.
