Rawhide trade runs smoothly

During the meeting, tanners and rawhide merchants agreed to run the rawhide trade smoothly for further development of the industry.
Talking to BSS, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) Md Sakawat Ullah said tannery owners have started rawhide procurementat the government fixed rate.
“According to the Sunday’s decision, tannery owners have started procurement of rawhide of sacrificial animals and it will continue for thenext two months,” he added.
Bangladesh Hide and Skin Merchants Association (BHSMA) Chairman Hazi Mohammad Delwar Hossain said merchants have already started the selling ofrawhide across the country.
“Most of the problems between tannery owners and merchants have been solved. Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and leaders of the concerned associations will meet on August 22 for solving rest of the problems,” he added.
A tri-party meeting for solving the problems of the tannery industry was held on Sunday. Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman Fazlur Rahman, Senior Secretary of the Commerce Ministry M Mofizul Islam, Industries Secretary Md Abdul Halim and representatives from Finance Ministry, Bangladesh Bank, FBCCI, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), BTA and BHSMA, among others, attended on the occasion.
Earlier, the government fixed the price of rawhide of sacrificial animals for the Eid-ul-Azha. Per square foot cowhide price for Dhaka was fixed Tk 45-50 while Tk 35-40 for rest of the country.
Besides, the price of male goat hide was fixed Taka 18-20 while female goat Tk 13-15.
