Almost half of the raw animal hides processed throughout the year is collected during the Eid ul Azha. The government has announced the prices of different types of rawhides from animals sacrificed during Eid-ul-Azha.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi announced the decision on Tuesday (Aug 6) after a meeting with leather traders at the Secretariat.
As per as the decision, tanners would buy per square feet salted cowhide and buffalo rawhide at Tk 45-50 in Dhaka and at Tk 35-40 for outside capital.
"There has been no drop in leather prices in the international as well as local market. Hence, there is no way we would lower the price," the minister said.

Across Bangladesh, the price of goat hide has been set at Tk18-20 and Tk13-15 for un-castrated goat hides across Bangladesh.

Responding to the leather traders' complaint, Commerce Secretary Md Mofizul Islam said: "We can think about exporting leather if we fail to achieve a reasonable price in the domestic market.”
