The High court has observed that any organisation set up by a Bangladeshi national will be regarded as a Bangladeshi citizen.

This was stated by a joint bench of justices, Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Md. Ashraful Kamal while stating ‘illegal’ the severing of ties by Alliance between Bangladeshi garment factories and North American buyers.

The high court also directed the formation of security laws to improve relations between RMG factories in Bangladesh and buyers in the US.

Barrister Imtiaz Mainul Islam said: “After the Rana Plaza tragedy, the North American buyers formed a monitoring foundation called Alliance; its duty incorporated ensuring factory safety, worker training and worker empowerment.”

The government gave permission to Alliance to prevent the repeat of a tragedy like Rana Plaza, he said and added: “However, the organisaiton (alliance) has been running roughshod over garment factories and have been instrumental in severing trade links between producers in Bangladesh and buyers in North America.”

They abused their power and severed links between BHIS Apparels and buyers, which is illegal, he added.
