Dhaka stocks drop with rise in turnover

File photo shows a general view of the Dhaka Stock Exchange building.Despite turning down the index again on Thursday (Jul 18) from the upward trend of previous two days, country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) registered higher turnover value in the last working day of week.
DSE witnessed turnover of Tk 3.96 billion which was Tk 860 million higher than the amount of Tk 3.09 billion on Wednesday (Jul 17).
In the day at DSE, a total of 14,20,93,445 shares and mutual funds of 353 companies were traded. Of the companies, 111 issues settled with higher price while 204 issues declined and 38 issues remained unchanged, reports BSS.
However, DSE’s main index closed the session with 2.44 points down at 5,130.70. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 0.74 points down at 1,176.14 and with 0.45 point down at 1,829.58.
The top 10 gainers were Vanguard AML Rupali Bank Balanced Fund, SEML FBSL Growth Fund, SEML IBBL Shariah Fund, Vanguard AML BD Finance Mutual Fund One, SEML LEC Mutual Fund, CAPM BDBL Mutual Fund, Beacon Pharma, Shepherd Industries and Orion Infusion.
Fortune Shoes topped the turnover list followed by Beacon Pharma, Sonarbangla Insurance, Seapearl Resort, National Polymer, Federal Insurance, United Power, National Life Insurance, Runner Auto and Sinobangla.
Besides, the top 10 losers were Pragati Insurance, BIFC, Delta Spinning, Al-hajtex, Beximco Synthetics, Fareast Finance, Global Insurance, LR Global Mutual fund, International Leasing and Emerald Oil.
In the port city, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed declining the main index CASPI by 5 points to 15,724. A total of 286 issues were traded at the CSE. Of those, 111 closed higher and 150 closed lower while 25 remained unchanged.
A total of 7,395,600 shares and mutual fund changed hands at Tk 168 million.
