Stocks see rise on budget day trade

FILE PHOTO/Mehedi HasanStock markets on Thursday witnessed slightly up on higher transactions though the investors were cautious as the government has proposed the national budget for 2019-20 financial year (FY20).
The DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 4.68 points up at 5,474.31. The Shariah-based DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 2.41 points up at 1,244.06 and with 1.37 point up at 1,918.73.
The trade value at DSE increased to Tk 5.73 billon from the previous session’s Tk 5.23 billion while the trade volume also rose to 17.58 crore from 13.67 crore shares.
Out of the 349 issues traded on DSE, 129 gained against 102 losing issues.
The major gainers were Peoples Insurance, Northern Insurance, Paramount, Sonali Ansh and Safko Spinning. The major losing issues were KPPL, 1JANATAMF, ARAMITCEM, Tallu spinning and Prime Life.
The top five turnover leaders were SILCOPHL, SKTRIMS, JMISMDL, BBS Cables and GENEXIL.
Like DSE, major CASPI index of Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) was 28.91 points down at 16,764.44. At CSE, 275 issues were traded. Of those, 134 issues closed higher while 97 issues lower.
