There are reports that clients are facing trouble while trying to withdraw cash from ATM machines ahead of Eid. On Sunday, June 2, clients could not withdraw money since money flow at ATMs was not satisfactory.
Due to lack of cash, some ATMs are closed; on Monday (June 3) morning, Islami Bank ATMs in Maniknagar were found to be closed.
Before Eid, the last banking transaction will be on Monday; on this day, the banks will be open and transactions will be carried out from morning till 2:30 pm in the afternoon. The Bangladesh Bank clearinghouse is also open.
Reportedly, some ATMs in the capital are facing technical difficulties.
From Tuesday, banks will remain closed for the next five days; at this time, only ATMs and mobile banking will run. From June 4, Tuesday, till June 6, Thursday, all establishments will be closed for Eid ul Fitr with the weekend holidays falling on June 7 and 8, Friday and Saturday.
Bangladesh Bank has ordered all commercial banks to keep enough cash in the ATMs.
In addition, directives have been given to carry out transactions through Point of Sale, e-payment and Mobile Financial Services, MFS.
Payments Systems Department of Bangladesh Bank issued a gazette in this regard on 23 May, Thursday, in this regard.
The directive also states that adequate security has to be kept at the ATM booths.
Managing Director of Pubali Bank, Abdul Halim Chowdhury said, “due to Eid shopping, the pressure is high and that may result in problems, but there has not been any complaint on the ATMs of Pubali Bank.”
Bangladesh Bank spokesperson, Md. Sirajul Islam stated: “directives have been issued to keep enough cash in the ATMs and commercial banks have been asked to settle network related problems.
