Tk 1,000 tax per bhori to legalise gold

The government has imposed a tax of Tk 1000 per bhori [11.664 grams] to legalise undeclared gold.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) published a gazette in this regard on Tuesday (May 28).
According to the NBR notification, in addition to the tax on gold, Tk 6,000 will be imposed on per carat of cut and polished diamonds and Tk 50 on every bhori of silver to legalise them.
NBR Chairman Mosharraf Hosain Bhuiyan said in the statement that the undeclared gold, diamond and silver need to be declared by Jun 30.
It also said that traders also need to file their tax returns in addition to filing for a Tax Identification Number (TIN).
