Bangladesh exports grow 11.6% in ten months

Bangladesh had set a target of $39 billion in exports for the ongoing 2018-19 fiscal.Bangladesh has posted around 11.6 percent growth in the ten months of the 2018-19 fiscal year on the back of strong earnings from the apparel sector.
The export earnings from July 2018 to April 2019 of the financial year stood at around $33.93 billion, according to Export Promotion Bureau data.
The figure exceeded the projection of $31.9 billion by 6.36 percent and the exports of the same period last fiscal year by 11.61 percent, according to the bureau.
Single-month export earnings in April 2019 were $3.03 billion compared to $2.95 billion the same mont in the last fiscal year.

The growth in exports was spurred by readymade garments, which usually accounts for 80 percent of the export earnings. The apparel sector fetched $28.49 billion in the first ten months of the fiscal, registering a 12.59 percent growth.
Woven garments earned $14,405.76 million, marking 12.85 percent growth.
Export of home textiles fell by 3.74 percent to stand at $723.59 million while leather footwear exports earned $491.05 million, primary commodities $1.23 billion, including frozen and live fish $446.48 million, shrimps $318.43 million and agricultural products $790.90 million.
Leather and leather goods fetched $837.07 million while cotton and cotton products together earned $124.83 million, plastic products $ 100.35 million and rubber exports $21.17 million.
