More than Tk 11 billion changes hands through mobile banking in Bangladesh every day, according to the central bank.
A latest report by the Bangladesh Bank says that daily transactions now stand at Tk 11.19 billion as of March this year.
As many as 16 banks now provide the services with a subscriber base of 67.54 million, it said.
According to the report, mobile banking is getting popular as it cuts off the hassles of traditional banking.
Mobile banking services in different areas, such as electricity, gas, water bills, service payments, shopping bills, paying salary, sending money from abroad, or sending remittances, is now the preferred medium.
Bangladesh Bank launched mobile banking program in 2010. Mobile Financial Services started in the country On March 31, 2011 by DutchBangla Bank in the private sector. bKash initiated their services as a partner company of BRAC Bank with several successful campaigns.
