With a week left for the Ramadan, Dhaka South Mayor Sayeed Khokon has assured residents of no rise in prices of essentials for what he said the administration’s ‘zero tolerance policy’ against it.
“Price of essentials won’t go up even a bit in the upcoming Ramadan. It rather will drop compared to the previous year,” he said on Sunday (Apr 28).
Khokon was speaking to media after a meeting with businessmen and trade body leaders at his city corporation office.
The mayor said that traders have assured him of “ample stock of daily commodities capable to meet the demand till the Durga Puja after the Ramadan.”
“Kitchen markets of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSSC) will be strictly monitored to control the price,” said Khokon adding they have adopted a zero-tolerance policy on the matter.
Mobile courts would be in operation and unscrupulous traders would face legal actions, he warned.
Top executives of several business conglomerates inducing City Group and Meghna Group and leaders of Bangladesh Sugar Traders’ Association and Bangladesh Wholesale Edible Oil Traders’ Association joined the meeting.
