Just like previous years, several detective teams will be active on the field during Ramadan. Teams from four intelligence agencies will monitor illegal hoarding, supply of goods and price fluctuation.

They will take steps if they find proof of illegal hoarding.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said, “Preparation for forming the monitoring teams is over; if the teams find aberrant practices, they will inform the relevant authority.”

It’s found that the government is alert to ensure a stable market price for daily essentials during Ramadan.

Market specialists claim that if the powerful business syndicate is broken and Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) made more powerful then controlling prices during Ramadan will be possible.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, “I already had meetings with traders and they said that since there is an ample supply of products, there won’t be any price rise.”

Saying that prices of essentials rise due to extortion on the highways, he said that adequate measures are being taken to deal with such nuisance.

Letter shave been sent to district administrators, TNOs and other officials to tackle road extortion.

Meanwhile, the commerce ministry says that the supply of products is smooth and there isn’t any dearth of items.

The detective teams on the field during Ramadan will carry out extensive survey of the market and take legal measures if they find any irregularities.

An official of the commerce ministry entrusted with the duty of monitoring the market, says: “There are 14 teams and led by a deputy secretary, each team will have a magistrate, health official, officer from the department of agriculture, members of police and RAB.”

Every year, before Ramadan starts, an unscrupulous group tries to trigger artificial increase of items. To prevent this vile practice, the monitoring teams will be active this year just like previous ones. TCB will also carry out campaigns across districts and upazilas.
