The biennial election to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for 2019-22 has ended.

The voting began at 8 am and continued uninterrupted till 4 pm.

Voting also took place at BGMEA Bhaban in port city Chittagong.

Sammilita-Forum and Shadhinata Parishad are contesting for 26 posts of directors.

The board of director of BGMEA is comprised of 35 directors, of which nine from the Chittagong zone have already been elected unopposed.

For the Dhaka zone, Shadhinata Parishad is vying for 18 posts as it filed nomination of 18 people, while the Sammilita Forum is vying for 26 posts.

Rubana Huq, Managing Director of Mohammadi Group, is leading Sammilita-Forum panel, while Jahangir Alam, Managing Director of Design and Source Limited, is leading Shadhinata Parishad.

A total of 59 apparel makers have submitted nomination papers to contest for 35 director posts in the election.

Of the 35 elected directors, a president, a first vice president, senior vice president, and five vice presidents will be elected.
