Total number of loan defaulters in the country as of December, 2018 stands at 2, 66,118, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has informed the parliament.
The minister informed the House on the loan defaulters’ figure in response to a query by ruling party MP Waresat Hossain Belal on Thursday (Feb 28).
The minister also revealed the names of 20 defaulter companies. However, some defaulter companies’ names weren’t mentioned due to the High Court’s stay order on them.
The 20 defaulter companies are, Quantum Power Systems Limited, Samannaj Super Oil Limited, BR Spinning Mills Limited, Suprov Spinning Limited, Remex Footwear Limited, Rising Steel Limited, Computer Source Limited, Bennetex Industries Limited, Max Spinning Mills, SA Oil Refinery Limited, Rubia Vegetable Oil Industries Limited, Anwara Spinning Mills, Crescent Leather Products Ltd, Suprov Rotor Spinning Limited, Yasir Enterprise, Chowdhury Knit Limited, Siddiq Traders, Rupali Composite Leather Ware Ltd, Alappa Composite Towels Limited and MM Vegetable Oil Products Limited.
In response to another query by Dhaka-7 MP Haji Selim, the finance minister said, “As of September 2018, the amount of default loans in six state-owned banks stands at nearly Tk 443 billion.
